With spring just around the corner, the 2015-2016 wrestling season has come to a close. The Crete Cards finished their season with a final team score of 4.0. There were many ups and downs throughout the season. One of the biggest disadvantages was the lack of wrestlers and experience. “Lack of depth played a big role. We had several guys that should have been wrestling in JV meets that had to go to varsity duals because their team needed them. We need more wrestlers, especially at the larger weights, to provide some depth and give our guys more opportunities for guys to wrestle in practice,” Coach Aaron Wagoner said.

By contrast, the advantage the wrestling team had this year was two of their players going to state and the Crete Cards victory over Sutton, who was a top 5 team in the state tournament. “We had a couple duals wins over some tough teams. The growth of some of our younger wrestlers, Kolton Johnson, Eli Clarke, Hamilson Vincente, Nick Chrastil, and Tanner Swain to just name a few, were very nice achievements too,” Coach Aaron Wagoner said.

The 2015-2016 season for the Crete wrestlers was full learning and development. “Getting our guys in the weight room to be stronger and compete with other guys their size; continue to build a core group of kids that love wrestling and commit to being the best we can be [are some skills I want to improve on for next year]. If we are going to improve, we have to have guys that are 100% committed that can push the others. I can’t be the one always pushing,” Coach Wagoner said.
