Piecing together a musical can be a bit more challenging than creating a One Act play. There are a couple main differences between the two as well. For starters, a musical has at least two acts with an intermission between them, while One Act is just that, one act long. The One Act season is also competitive, with the whole cast performing it for different audiences in multiple schools in the surrounding area. Musical is noncompetitive, and its goal is to create a whimsically fun and immersive show for an audience. It’s also a challenge to create a practice schedule that works around everyone’s hectic and often conflicting activities. “Musical is stressful and honestly ruins my life every year, but I keep coming back for more because it’s fun!” said cast member Ayla Tschetter. However, every year they always manage to create a completed show that amuses every audience.

Musical is a spring activity that is anticipated by almost everyone at school and within the community. There is a brand new and exciting show every year, and this year is no exception. Crete high school will be performing The Addams Family musical for the public in the middle of March. Melissa Walburn is the co-director for this production. “We looked at this play a few years ago, and really liked the fact that there were a lot of leads and an active ensemble.” Walburn stated. The play features all the main Addams family members, like Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, and Wednesday, to name a few. This Addams family story focuses around Wednesday Addams and the fact that she is newly betrothed to a “normal” boy, to her family’s dismay. The Addams Family is definitely very different in comparison to last year’s production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. “It’s more contemporary, and one of the newer plays out there.” Walburn said. The first showing of the musical will be for the Middle school on March 15. After that, the cast will be performing for the public from March 17 through the 19.
