Crete High School’s softball team has had a great beginning to their season. Starting off winning their opening tournament in Aurora against Gering (12-0), Central City (12-4), and Cozad (12-0). After being asked how she feels about the upcoming season, Senior Camry Moore said,” I am feeling very confident about this season, we have a lot of talent and we only lost two seniors, so going into our first games, I think they’re going to be good.” They are currently 7-3, with head coach Shawn Carr, hoping to win some of the close games they have lost early on this year, later in the year.

Crete softball, along with every other fall sport, started practice on August 7th. There are 19 girls on the team this year who work very well with each other. According to Coach Carr, ”We have a really strong core of kids, top to bottom. Camry Moore is our pitcher, and is one of the strongest pitchers in class B, so she would be a leader for us. Offensively, we have many strong leaders, our bats are so good this year and every kid who hits could be considered a threat, but Emily Dunaway, Morgan Maly, Camry Moore, Izzy Eltze are all hitters who should be feared by other teams. Defensively, we have some strong players, we are lead in the infield by Jayda Weyand our shortstop. She is a very strong player for us. Makenzie Crumbliss is the strongest outfielder and has one of the best arms on our team and in our area. Our senior leaders are all really strong, Kate Schroder is our rock. Our team goes as she does, when she is amped up and leading our team, we play so well.  Bridgette Nichols also is a very vocal leader who rallies the troops well and really keeps our team intact and moving forward.”

Seniors, Camry Moore, Makenzie Crumbliss, Bridgette Nichols, and Kate Schroder have been amazing leaders for all of the girls on the team. Coach Carr, really counts on them to show everyone the ropes. After being asked how confident he feels about the season Coach Carr said,” Very confident, we have as many athletes as anyone on our schedule and with Camry pitching and our line up we can beat anyone.  The biggest thing we will have to do in order to make it to state is truly buy in and believe in each other. I believe we have the pieces and can do it, it will just be a matter of being tough enough and catching a break at the right time.” Don’t forget to cheer on the softball girls on Thursday, August 31st against rival school Pius X.
